Step 1: Choose Your Flower
Start by selecting a flower to draw. You can use reference photos from the internet or take your own pictures of flowers in your garden or neighborhood. Look for flowers with simple shapes and recognizable features, like daisies, roses, or sunflowers.

I use my iphone camera to take my reference photos  (PS. I don't have the latest phone so don't worry about having the newest camera).

Step 2: Set Up Your Canvas

I currently use my Ipad Air (3rd generation) and the Apple pencil (1st generation) . (Also not the newest Ipad, so do not wait to have the newest model to start your art journey)

Open the Procreate app and create a new canvas. Choose a size that suits your preferences—I like to start with either a square or rectangle canvas for drawing flowers. But because I love to create coloring books I usually stay on the 8.5" x 11" size, but again you can choose the size that works for you. ( You can check my coloring book and notebook library Here) One thing to remember is to make sure is that, don't matter the size you choose for your canvas that you keep on the 300DPI or higher, never lower. We want a good resolution.

Step 3: Sketch the Basic Shape
Using the sketching brush in Procreate, lightly outline the basic shape of your flower. Start with a simple circle or oval for the center of the flower, then draw skeleton and the basic shape of your flowers. I like add petals around it.

Don't worry about making it perfect—this is just a rough sketch to guide your drawing.

I like to use different brushes, but CHALK is one of my favorite, and the good thing is that it already comes with the procreate app.

Step 4: Add Details
Once you're happy with the overall shape, start adding details to your flower. You can use a finer or thicker brush to define the edges of your flowers and add texture or shading.

Pay attention to the curves and contours of the petals, and don't be afraid to experiment with different brush sizes and opacities.

I like to use one brush the MONOLINE , it also comes as a default on your procreate app.

Step 5: Color Your Flower
Now it's time to add color to your flower. Use the color picker tool in Procreate to select the perfect shades for your petals, leaves, and stem. Start with a base color for each element, then gradually add highlights and shadows to create depth and dimension.

Step 6: Final Touches
Once you've colored your flower, take a step back and admire your work. If there are any areas that need touching up or refining, use the eraser tool or additional layers to make adjustments to bring your flower to life.

Drawing flowers can be a fun and fulfilling artistic endeavor, especially when using the Procreate app. By following these simple steps and experimenting with different techniques, you can create beautiful floral illustrations that are sure to brighten your day. So grab your iPad, gather some reference photos, and let your creativity blossom!
